Well, it seems that I am giving dog owners a bit of a rough ride, however I want to point out that I am also a dog owner myself! So I feel I am justified to have a rant about them if they are giving the rest of us a bad name.
My original moan about dog owners was about them leaving filled poo bags laying around the place – some even decorating the surrounding trees – well this week, my moan is about dog owners who are too lazy to actually pick up their dogs mess.
Why do it? When you first got a dog you knew the responsibilities that came with owning a dog – as a member of the public you knew the annoyance of stepping in doggie do-dos, so why leave your dogs mess laying around?!!
We went for a walk around the Nature Discovery Centre the other evening. It was a beautiful evening, there were lots of families and lots of dogs around. as we rounded the top corner (we were walking on the well defined path) there, slap bang in the middle of the path was a pile of dog mess.
At the absolute very minimum, if by some major lack of planning on your part, you actually didn’t have a dog poo bag with you – DON’T let your dog do it’s business in the middle of the footpath!!! It’s obvious when your dog is about to go, so at the VERY LEAST drag your dog over the the grassy verge (as obviously other dog owners have previously done this).
It’s laughable that there are doggie poo bins around, all with signs stating a £500 or £1,000 fine for allowing your dog to foul. But who is going to enforce this? What’s even worse, is that usually within the next 1-2 minutes you will probably walk past a poo bin.
So, COME ON dog owners – get your act together and carry poo bags with you!!! If you’re too busy nattering on the phone or reading the newspaper – MAKE THE EFFORT! You wanted the responsibility – now man up to it!
